Nova #1 is at the same time both entertaining to read, and a bit upsetting. It’s a fun little comic about a kid having a pretty much perfect life. He’s a super hero who tackles the bad guys with his dad, does excellent in school, and even takes time off to have a normal social life. His parents are happy with him, and he’s happy with life. That’s a good read, to a point. The problem with it all is that for the first 20 pages, pretty much nothing happens. Everything is perfect, then there’s a huge twist no one could have seen coming at the end. Literally, the last two panels of the book. And pretty much nothing else matters. You could read the entire book, and it’s pretty good, or you can read the last page, and you’re all caught up. I hate that.
